Evaluating The
Impact
Of Wastewater Treatment
Plant Provision
Case Study:
Wastewater Treatment Plant In Surakarta
Abstract
Untreated
wastewater will impact on public health and environment. Therefore, providing
Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is esssential to prevent that impacts. The
Local Government of Surakarta has built a treatment plant to improve proper
wastewater treatment service for community, protection toward public and
environmental health. However, the usage
of WWTP only 25,73 of the target, the degradation of public and environmental
health which associated with the wastewater pollution is still occuring.
This thesis aims to
evaluate the impact of wastewater treatment plant provision by investigating
public acceptance, evaluate the impact of wastewater treatment plant in the
quality of public health, residential environmental and river water. The
research was carried out in the City of Surakarta. The evaluation of the usage
of wastewater treatment plant is using a spatial analysis and spatial
regression, and evaluation of the impact of wastewater treatment plant
provision is using a spatial regression, especially using an ordinary least
square and a geographically weighted regression.
The result of this research are the
level of wastewater treatment plant usage influenced by the level of poverty,
level of education, grant scheme,
information delivery, and distance. The indicators of public acceptance has the
significant influence to the level of wastewater treatment plant usage up to 75, 49%. The wastewater
treatment plant usage have the significant relation to the public health and
affect for 44, 54 % to public health. The WWTP
usage have the significant relation to the residential environmental and have
the contribution 30, 09 % to the public health. Centralized WWTP has less impact to river
water pollution, but communal WWTP has
high impact, due to the effluent of communal WWTP
does not meet the quality standard. Future
research should be directed to using another method to analyse the problems and
than comparing with the result from this research.
